Mimi Berlin, premium lubricants expert at CHS, provides a harvest equipment prep checklist for farmers.
With harvest season quickly approaching, it’s time to make sure your equipment is up for the challenge. Mimi Berlin, premium lubricants expert at CHS, recommends these three steps to help prevent costly downtime and unnecessary expenses this fall:
- Inspect the outside of equipment. “Walk around each unit and inspect the outside. Are there areas that should be fixed or repaired? Does the equipment need to be cleaned? Any damage done to equipment during planting season should be repaired ahead of harvest season.”
- Conduct a lubricant scan oil analysis. “A lube scan oil analysis is like a blood test for your engine or hydraulic system. It allows you to check inside your equipment to ensure each unit is operating the way it’s supposed to.”
- Change fluids and stock up on high-quality lubricants. “Filling bulk tank systems now means you won’t have to go back to the distributor mid-harvest or deal with delays due to low product inventory.”
Berlin encourages farmers to ensure they’re selecting a high-quality lubricant for optimal engine performance. Quality lubricants will reduce deposits and neutralize acids that naturally occur in the engine combustion process.
“Folks tend to think oil is oil, but this is definitely not the case,” explains Berlin. “There are different tiers of quality when it comes to lubricants, and higher lubricant quality translates into improved engine power and efficiency.”
By pairing a well-rounded maintenance plan with premium lubricants, your equipment can run at peak performance this harvest season.
