Agronomy expert Blake Murnan discusses the value of protecting seed investments when planning for spring.

A crop’s yield potential is highest the moment the seed touches soil. How can you protect your seed investment to ensure optimal performance until harvest? Blake Murnan, product development manager with CHS Agronomy, stresses the importance of defending against insects and disease at planting time.

“Pathogens can attack the seed within 90 minutes of the seed being planted,” says Murnan. “Without an effective seed treatment, a grower may be losing yield to disease before the field is completely planted.”

Once yield potential is lost, it can’t be recovered. Murnan says one of the best ways to optimize yield at planting and prevent early season disease is to pick an appropriate seed treatment.

“We help retailers and growers by creating unique seed treatment blends formulated for certain environments and their pathogen histories,” says Murnan. “Your CHS Agronomy account manager can help you identify what products will best protect your crops.”
